Euryhaline teleosts possess the capacity to osmoregulate under various environmental conditions (freshwater to hypersaline water). Characterisation and expression of four mRNA sequences encoding glutathione S-transferases pi, mu, omega and sigma classes in the Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas exposed to hydrocarbons and pesticides ArchiMer

Hydrocarbon and pesticide pollution in coastal ecosystems can disturb marine bivalve metabolism. In this study, we characterised four full-length cDNA sequences encoding glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) in the Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas. A BLAST X search showed that these four sequences encode GSTs from four different classes: GST pi, sigma, mu and omega. A phylogenetic analysis of GST was made to determine the position of oyster GST compared to invertebrate and vertebrate sequences. Summer mortality of Pacific oysters is known in several countries. However no specific pathogen has been systematically associated with this phenomenon. A complex combination of environmental and biological parameters has been suggested as the cause and is now starting to be identified. A high genetic basis was found for survival in oysters when a first generation (G1) was tested in three sites during summer. dAlthough prolactin has been demonstrated to be the main hormone involved in adaptation to dilute media in several freshwater teleosts, few studies have been conducted in marine teleosts. In the Mediterranean, the sea bass Dicentrarchus labrax inhabits environments ranging from the open sea to coastal lagoons, where salinity varies greatly. Molecular identification and expression of the phosphoglucomutase (PGM) gene from the Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas ArchiMer

Phosphoglucomutase is a key enzyme in glycolysis and has been widely studied in vertebrates and some invertebrates but no molecular information is available in marine invertebrates despite the importance of this marker in ecological and genetical studies. In this work, we isolated a cDNA and the corresponding genomic sequence that encode PGM-2 locus in the Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas. We used sequences drawn from the database to construct an evolutionary framework for examining the position of mollusc PGM sequences among prokaryotic and eukaryotic homologues and showed that oyster PGM gene organization was closer to vertebrates PGM genes than other invertebrates as previously found in other Lophotrochozoa species. Marine bivalve metabolism can be perturbed by hydrocarbon and pesticide pollution in coastal ecosystems. In this study, in the Pacific oyster, Crassostrea gigas, full-length cDNAs encoding two non-P450 phase I enzymes, flavin-containing monooxygenase 2 (FMO-2) and monamine oxidase A (MAO A), were characterized. Phylogéographie des huîtres de mangrove de l'Océan Atlantique Sud : C. gasar et C. rhisophorae ArchiMer

Mangrove oysters include various species that are also present on different coasts. In the southern part of the Atlantic Ocean, Crassostrea rhizophorae has been observed along the southern coast of America and Crassostrea gasar along the western coast of Africa. Fifteen populations of these oysters were sampled from these two geographic areas. Their polymorphism was studied on the 16S mitochondrial fragment both by par sequencing and RFLP analysis. Some samples' caryotype were also analysed. Two haplotypes were identified: C. gasar was found in Africa, but also for the first time in South America, whereas C. rhizophorae was only found on the coasts of South America.

Phylogeography of mangrove oysters from the Southern Atlantic ocean : Crassostrea gasar and Crassostre rhizophorae ArchiMer

Mangrove oysters encompass several species and their taxomony is unclear. Among then, Crassostrea rhizophorae has been described along the Central and South American Atlantic coasts and Crassostrea gasar along African Atlantic coasts. Most taxonomic studies have so far been based on morphological criteria which are particularly susceptible to plasticity and new insight can be provided by molecular markers. The present work aims to provide information on the phylogeography of these two taxa.

Taking advantage of the massive genome sequencing effort made on thermophilic prokaryotes, thermal adaptation has been extensively studied by analysing amino acid replacements and codon usage in these unicellular organisms. In most cases, adaptation to thermophily is associated with greater residue hydrophobicity and more charged residues. Both of these characteristics are positively correlated with the optimal growth temperature of prokaryotes. L'étude de la taxonomie des huîtres est longtemps restée basée sur des critères morphologiques (forme de la coquille et description des organes) et géographiques. Ces considérations sont relativement peu fiables en particulier au niveau interspécifique du fait de la plasticité des caractères morphologiques d'une part de des introductions d'espèces étrangères sur les lieux de culture d'autre part. La biologie moléculaire est donc, depuis quelques années, un outil très utilisé pour différencier les espèces d'huîtres. Trans-Atlantic distribution of a mangrove oyster species revealed by 16S mtDNA and karyological analyses ArchiMer
